POSITION: Middle School Counselor 

 

LOCATION: Galesburg-Augusta Middle School 

 

START DATE: August 2025 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Certification as Guidance Counselor consistent with State of Michigan Certification Laws
• Must have knowledge of Career Pathways, Four Year Plans and Educational Development Plans
• Experience working with middle grade students preferred

OTHER:

• Ability to communicate effectively and relate in a positive manner with students, parents, staff,  and other members of the community
• Capable of leading and working in a collaborative team setting 
• Work with building and ancillary staff dealing with at-risk students and students with special  needs 
• Able to monitor and initiate 504 assistance plans 
• Enthusiasm for all post-secondary career options
• Familiarity with school information systems, such as PowerSchool 
• Must be able to facilitate/coordinate with services needed outside a high school environment
• Capable of assisting test planning and administration
• Knowledge and/or experience with:  peer mediation, restorative practices, positive behavior programs, conflict resolution strategies, de-escalatory techniques
• Willingness to learn and utilize trauma-informed best practices
• Must be organized and demonstrate effective planning strategies 
• Attend evening activities as related to the position of counselor 
• Other duties as assigned by the building administration
