- College degree preferred
- Certification in education or related field preferred
- Previous experience in management or leadership position preferred
Behavior/Academic Support Specialist Essential Job Functions
Behavior Supports (Minors, Majors, Check in/Out, Small group behavior support)
- Responsible for monitoring PowerSchool entries and determining appropriate consequences and/or restorative activities for students.
- Communicate with families and staff regarding all student behavior.
- Consult with the principal only for severe behavior situations (threats, fighting, etc.).
- Communicate with teachers to ensure students serving ISS/OSS are given school work.
- Develop a system of tracking student behavior to determine patterns and develop appropriate interventions and/or teacher supports.
- Monitor all lunch detentions. Require students to do a reflective activity.
- Do Check In/Out daily with a core group of students.
- Organize and lead meetings regarding student behavior (with staff, families, re-entry, etc).
- Use research based best practices and interventions to ensure a safe school environment.
PBIS
- Attend Whole Child meetings.
- Implement district Whole Child Initiatives at the Middle School.
- Meet regularly with the building whole child team to implement initiatives.
- Present and lead staff through district Whole Child Initiatives.
- Monitor teacher use of RAMS tickets (how many are handed out) and provide support on how to use them.
- RAMS Store management, ordering, calendar.
- Organize and lead assemblies on RAMS expectations.
- Behavior plans- creation, monitoring, and tracking.
- Lead teams of teachers, parents, and outside support services to build behavior plans that recognize the mental health and social emotional needs of the students and hold high expectations for improving behavior and learning.
- Modeling and coaching teachers on classroom strategies to manage behavior.
- Provide support for teachers to improve classroom management and increase active student engagement, including trauma informed practices.
- Present behavior management strategies to staff at staff meetings.
Academic Supports (Attendance, Grades, SST Team, TAP Team, ISK)
- Monitor student failure data.
- Monitor attendance data.
- Communicate with teachers and families regarding grades and attendance.
- Attend all SST, TAP, Attendance meetings
- Work collaboratively with the social worker and special education team to effectively meet the needs of students with 504’s and IEPs.
Safety
- Lead administrator at recess and lunch
- Management of the walkies
- Schedule and lead all safety drills, submit drill schedule to the state and post on website
- Coordinate and communicate with the SRO regarding student behavior and safety
- Crisis Prevention Interventions or Ukero certified.
- Be physically present during campus emergencies or incidents (e.g., protests, student health emergencies).
- Coordinate with campus safety and health teams on-site.
- Facility Walkthrough for safety
- Engage directly with students and staff
Representation at Events
- Manage set up and tear down of school events.
- Give speeches or welcome remarks at convocations, graduations, and ceremonies.
- Attend meetings with faculty, trustees, or community leaders as a student advocate
Visible Presence
- Attend student events (games, performances, rallies, orientations).
- Be a recognizable and approachable figure for students.
Conflict Mediation
- Meet face-to-face with students involved in disputes, misconduct cases, or needing support.
- Hold in-person conduct hearings or restorative justice circles.
Supportive Meetings
- Sit down with students or groups who need guidance, especially in emotionally charged situations.
- Join in-person strategy sessions with staff or student leaders.
