VACANCY:    Early Childhood Teacher Consultant

 

LOCATION: Eastern Service Area: Galesburg-Augusta Community Schools, Parchment School District, Climax-Scotts Community Schools

 

JOB GOALS:

The job goals of the Early Childhood Teacher Consultant are 1) to provide direct service and consultative support to ensure timely and appropriate special education services for preschool age students in inclusive environments and 2) to provide consultative support to general education preschool staff on the development and implementation of targeted interventions for students at risk.

 

EDUCATION: Master's degree in education or a field of study related to special education required 

 

CERTIFICATION: Valid Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education required 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess strong consultation and coaching skills
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of research supported positive behavior supports; at the individual and classroom level
  • Working knowledge of effective classroom management strategies
  • Working knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices for language, social-emotional and sensorimotor development and early learning skills
  • Working knowledge of curriculum and assessment measures used by KCR4, GSRP, and Head Start
  • Knowledge of IDEA and Michigan Rules and Regulations 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Provide direct and consultative services to students with IEPs placed in general education environments in accordance with their Individualized Education Program
  • Coordinate transitions with all relevant providers in a variety of situations, to include the following: from Early Intervention to Preschool, including participation in Transition Conferences at student's homes, between Preschool Programs, and from Preschool to Kindergarten settings
  • Effectively collaborate with Head Start, GSRP and other community-based preschool staff to support students demonstrating a need for targeted intervention
  • Lead and/or assist in assessing and planning for students' developmental, social-emotional, sensorimotor and early learning needs, particularly during transition planning
  • Recommend appropriate assistive technology to support instructional needs
  • Assist with transitioning preschool students into local districts when eligible for kindergarten
  • Assist families with understanding child development as it pertains to delays or disability as well as identifying developmentally  appropriate expectations
  • Provide positive behavior support to students in a group and individual settings
  • Serve as an IEP team member and chair IEP meetings
  • Facilitate and/or participate in Play Groups within multiple districts
  • Lead or assist with communication with parents, agencies and other student systems of support
  • Effectively communicate, consult and collaborate with parents, staff, agencies and others in a professional and timely manner
  • Keep up to date with best practices, research and trends regarding early childhood, early on and early intervention services
  • Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed upon or established timelines
  • Perform additional tasks, responsibilities, and duties as assigned by the Early Childhood Special Education Coordinator and/or Eastern Service Area Director

 

WORK EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Previous experience in supporting the development of preschool age children required with experience providing consultative services preferred. 
  • Previous experience in supporting student with special education needs
