POSITION: Middle School Counselor
LOCATION: Galesburg-Augusta Middle School
START DATE: August 2025
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certification as Guidance Counselor consistent with State of Michigan Certification Laws
- Must have knowledge of Career Pathways, Four Year Plans and Educational Development Plans
- Experience working with middle grade students preferred
OTHER:
- Ability to communicate effectively and relate in a positive manner with students, parents, staff, and other members of the community
- Capable of leading and working in a collaborative team setting
- Work with building and ancillary staff dealing with at-risk students and students with special needs
- Able to monitor and initiate 504 assistance plans
- Enthusiasm for all post-secondary career options
- Familiarity with school information systems, such as PowerSchool
- Must be able to facilitate/coordinate with services needed outside a high school environment
- Capable of assisting test planning and administration
- Knowledge and/or experience with: peer mediation, restorative practices, positive behavior programs, conflict resolution strategies, de-escalatory techniques
- Willingness to learn and utilize trauma-informed best practices
- Must be organized and demonstrate effective planning strategies
- Attend evening activities as related to the position of counselor
- Other duties as assigned by the building administration
